TechTracker has unveiled TechTracker Pro for OS X, an extension of its software management tool that enables users to upgrade existing software and find new Mac OS X releases.

Running as a native Cocoa app — yep, that’s right, Cocoa, not Carbon — the TechTracker Pro Client automatically creates a list of installed software, and notifies the user when software on their machine needs to be updated.

In Geostationary Orbit. Well CNet has fully taken over a VersionTracker and it doesn't exists anymore! If you try to go to VerionTracker now CNet will forward you to CNet's Download.com and IMHO this totally stinks. At least us Mac users still have MacUpdate.com.::love:. Download RipIt for Mac to get your movies off of DVD and onto your Mac. Download and install the Microsoft OneDrive app for PC, Mac, iOS, and Android. Get OneDrive cloud storage to protect your files and access them across all your devices.

TechTracker Pro for OS X gives users a personalized home page on VersionTracker.com where they can track other software by category or keyword. When users are ready to update software they can connect to the VersionTracker Web site and download updates directly, according to Duane Benson, TechTracker director of product marketing. Although it will track Mac OS X components, TechTracker Pro for Mac OS X will be of major benefit for third party apps as the next generation operating system has its own software update feature.

“With so much about Mac OS X being new, having the latest updates is more important than ever for Mac users,” Benson said. “We decided to make it a Cocoa app to make it as native, as close to, the new operating system as possible.”

VersionTracker is a component of TechTracker, as is the popular MacFixIt Web site. The latter offers a place where Mac users can seek solutions to Mac OS X, as well as other Mac related, technical problems, Benson told MacCentral. Meanwhile, a personalized home page on VersionTracker will provide new listings of daily updates in user-defined categories

Another feature that’s sure to please lots of folks is TechTracker Pro for OS X’s option of turning off banner ads. The tool also includes customized “watch lists” of applications defined by the user, which can be automatically generated for up to three machines running any combination of Mac OS 9.x and Mac OS X.

“TechTracker Pro for OS X demonstrates our commitment to support our user community as more of them migrate to OS X,” said Ted Landau, Founder and Director of Content for MacFixIt.com. “With so many products being updated for OS X, it’s hard for users to track consistently. TechTracker Pro for OS X will keep the guess work out of updating software.”

Landau said that Mac OS X is the future of the Mac platform. It’s just a matter of time before the applications Mac users want to use are Mac OS X only, as eventually happened with the transition to the Power PC chip, he added. Although the next generation operating system offers some tremendous advantages over the traditional Mac OS, it also still has glitches to be fixed, which is why Apple isn’t installing it on new hardware, Landau said. He feels that many of the glitches will be resolved this summer and that Mac OS X will be ready for most end users by the fall.
