Played to exhausting in the 90's... I am playing again ... took a little research to figure out the save/load game (ctrl-G then ctrl-L on the intro screen to reload)... I'm in business.

Hi Gypsy,
You have to press the shift key to draw the sword, but you have to pick it up first. You will find next to the skeleton in Level 1.

then type prince megahit to enable hack mode
Shift + L skips to the next level
shift + T gives you one extra life
Shif + W gives you the potion to float and fall without dying
Shift + I puts your screen upside down (and reverts it in case you take the potion that inverts the screen

Is it possible to get the Apple 2 version of the game on the site as well?
The Apple 2 link automatically gives the DOS version - and while that may be the better version, I would have loved to test the original Apple 2 one.

Awesome, thanks for sharing! Some trivia: Whilst this is the original version of PoP, the PC version was actually published a year after the original release - which was on the Apple II in 1989 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZDAPp61aak).

Got a problem on level 8. As soon as i step into the new screen to fight the guard he kills me before I have time to draw my sword. Anyone have same issue and fins a way around it? Love the game but never completed it as a kid. I really want to do it but I'm stuck. HELP!

This IS the O.G. PoP. There's people that probably played some of the ports or edits first, especially those people that remember fighting a skeleton on the first level (even more if it's the skeleton close to the sword). I played it back in the 90's with my father's old 386 PC...great times!

Love this game. It was the 1st one my dad had on our 1st computer in the early 90's! Sure was state of the art then. I can't tell you how many nights I snuck down to play this game until all hours and my eyeballs were popping out. I definitely won the game then but can't see how now LOL! This game is up before I can even begin to get to level 3! Which .... makes me need to ask where the trigger is for the door out of level 2! I can't seem to figure that one out. this is not the true official prince of persia, I played through the first level and it's different, there are extra places and the stuff is not where it's supposed to be. it's like a hack.

And you can take the sword by pressing 'shift' when near. Also shift is used to stay hang in edges and to walk 'slowly' to avoid get Shiskebabed or fell in a pit.

Prince of Persia is a classic platforming game developed by Jordan Mechner. It premiered Jordan's use of the 'rotoscoping' technique to digitize lifelike movements of the in-game characters. The game itself is a race against time since the clock is always ticking down, but moreso against all of the various traps and high falls in the dungeon which kill you just as much as the enemy characters that you will encounter. As an in-game text file included with the demo states: 'It's like an Arabian Nights movie come to life... with you as the star!' The controls do take some getting used to, but they became standard for this sort of game, as also seen in the sequel Prince of Persia: The Shadow and the Flame, as well as other later games like Blackthorne or Out of this World. The graphics are indeed very appealing, as the movements of the characters and other in-game elements feel like they have real weight to them. Try this demo version out to see how you like the original game that inspired the modern 3D series!
